We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tree Fruit Field Manager to oversee and manage our strategic raw product needs for sliced apple processing. The ideal candidate will have a degree in horticulture or a related field and extensive experience in apple production, grading, and packing. This role involves monitoring, overseeing and providing guidance through all activities related to the cultivation and harvesting of apples, ensuring high-quality yield and efficient operations that provide an assured supply of raw product for our operations.
Duties:
• Orchard Management: Provide oversight and guidance related to the daily operations of apple orchards, including planting, pruning, thinning, and harvesting of contract and partner growers.
• Crop Monitoring: Regularly inspect trees for signs of disease, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, and implement appropriate control measures.
• Raw Product Management: Provide seamless data and integration of raw product throughout growing and storage to all stakeholders, providing training and guidance to ensure quality, productivity and safety.
• Relationship Management: Must possess the ability to develop and foster positive and productive relationships across all aspects of the industry – grower, packer, shipper, manufacturer and other stakeholders throughout the growing, packing and processing of the crop.
• Quality Control: Monitor and maintain the quality of apples from bloom to harvest and through late storage, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal raw product specifications to meet daily production needs.
• Grading and Packing: Oversee the grading and packing process to ensure apples meet quality standards and are prepared for market.
• Data Management: Maintain accurate and timely data records on quality, growing attributes, and other pertinent aspects of apple production for fresh sales and production.
• Technology: Experience implementing and managing Crop Management software and collecting data relating to agricultural practices and crop attributes.
• Sustainability Practices: Implement and promote sustainable farming practices to enhance soil health and reduce environmental impact.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of orchard activities, including pesticide applications, fertilization, and harvest data
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field or equivalent experience and education.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in apple production, including grading and packing.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of apple cultivation practices, pest and disease management, and sustainable farming techniques.
• Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in using agricultural software and technology.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Washington State Licensed Pesticide Applicators license desirable.
